Campus Tour Part I

Visiting the University of Ottawa was definitely a smart choice. The tour was very informative. The buildings are quite diverse. For example, science is in a very new building that is solar powered, and the visual arts program is in a very short, old, outdated building. Currently, a new eleven storey building for classrooms is underconstruction. The athletics facilities are adequate, equipped with two gyms, rink, and swimming pool. There are also a number of other activities and clubs students can become involved in. If a student shows more need to earn an income, many part-time jobs are available on campus as well as in the Biward Market and Rideau Center. Apparently, some students like to skate down the Rideau Canal in the winter to their friends at Carleton University. I doubt its going to freeze this year, and thats not good for business.
Ottawa university is interconnected with the two other universities in town, Carleton and Saint Paul. The faculty of arts, which consists of some of the programs I will be taking, is interconnected with Saint Paul because they have a bigger philosophy course there.
The residences are gigantic, and are connected for security reasons. The university is also along the major bus route because of its proximity to the Rideau Shopping Center. That will definitely be of assistance to those living off campus. As it is everywhere downtown Ottawa, parking is expensive!
I am surprised at how many high school students dont go on campus tours to help them decide. Well, I was almost one of them. There was six students and nine parents! Not sure what the numbers were on the coinciding tour though. Glad I went. I may choose summer courses in order to help fast track my degree. The sooner I get to law school, the better. Law school is also connected to the university.
Another great thing to note about the university is its amount of funds available to students. Eighteen million just for scholarships. If average is maintained above 80, 3000 is automatically granted to you.
She talked a lot about her experiences with residence, meal plans, scholarships, different faculties and class sies, and protection services, but really didnt touch on city life in general or anything else students can do besides sports and student-run clubs. The guide, Rachael, talked about the four shuddles that go to the university: grocery store route which only runs on Thursdays, Carleton bus, Saint Pauls bus, and greyhound.
In total, I rate my tour 9.8 out of 10. I would be shocked if another university fairs as well as this tour.
