This Is the Diary of A Girl

Benazir Bhutto; 1953-2007

Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 @ 10:04

Just flipped the TV on to BBC World and saw that she had been assassinated earlier today.

Goodness.

And it's extremely fishy too--there's elections coming in January and she was the leader (and fmr. PM, twice elected, twice overthrown) of one of the major opposition parties in Pakistan even. Not surprising since there had been threats left right and centre, but just shocking.

Elections will not go well I imagine, and as "democratic" as they will say to 'be', I don't think they truly will be under Musharraf--one of the other major opposition parties led by a former PM will boycott the elections and if everyone follows suit, or some others do, then "everyone else" will no doubt vote Musharraf back to power. Country stability? Lets wait and see...

My sympathies go out to her husband and her daughters. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7161590.stm

Of course, CNN starts their by saying "Benazir Bhutto's death affected oil prices as they jittered and went up sharply a bit today. We go to Sarah---" "--Thanks Jim, the assassination happened before opening bell and sent oil prices up". (Yes we know that all you think about.) *shrugs and flips back between CBC Newsworld, RDI and BBC World*

Thank goodness here we have CBC, Newsworld, BBC World, TV5, RDI, Radio-Canada etc here. I avoid TVA/LCR (whatever the hell their name is now), TQS, and Fox, like the plague.
